::blinks and looks around at the folks gathered to read tonight’s Top Comments::
So this is what it looks like here on Fridays! It’s so bright and friendly! Thanks for letting me sneak in and be your diarist tonight! I’m usually not here, because Mr. Brillig and I have a 9yr standing tradition that on Friday evenings we are offline unless there’s something that we need to do. Tonight is the 10th anniversary of a particular online community (not Top Comments, although I’ve been here nearly that long!) and there’s a celebration going on later tonight. I am taking the opportunity to be here first! Grab whatever’s your typical Friday beverage (helooooo, Malbec!) and join me below the story break to welcome in the weekend!
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
As we bid farewell to April this weekend, I’m glad to have a relatively busy but enjoyable weekend planned. Tomorrow is the New England Kossacks meetup in Portland Maine, and Bill in Portland Maine and Commonsense Mainer will be there!!! It’s been WAY too long since my schedule didn’t offer up a non-optional competing event whenever a meetup got planned, so I am very excited about being able to attend. So much so that I’m going even though the venue has nothing I can eat (pizza is out due to the crust, and I don’t like salad)- drinks and a stealth protein bar are more than sufficient when good company is involved! Yes it means I will miss the Climate March, but I will find a way to do something good to make up for it.
Sunday morning is my congregation’s first look at our prospective new minister. The way Unitarian Universalist congregations choose ministers is a lot like Med School Match Day… sometime around first of the year congregations seeking ministers put out “packets” with information about themselves and what they’re seeking in a minister. Candidates apply, the search committee narrows it down, and then February and March are spent with the search committee traveling to so-called neutral pulpits to hear the candidates preach. Early April, congregations make their final candidate choice and if the minister accepts, then they go tell their current congregation they’re a final candidate, after which WE get to find out who it is (all the prior steps are done without us knowing who the candidate(s) are). This week is now our congregation’s “Candidate Week”… Rev <Name Redacted For Privacy> preaches this Sunday, then spends the week with us attending meetings, potlucks, etc etc. He preaches next Sunday, then leaves and we the members vote to “call” him. If he gets the overwhelming majority of our vote (I can’t remember exactly, somewhere between 85-95%) then he’s our new Minister. I’ve known this man by reputation for several decades, and he is going to be a fantastic choice for us!!
Sunday afternoon I co-teach the penultimate class in the church school 7-8th grade sexuality education curriculum. I love this curriculum but it’s a LOT of classwork… 26 90’ sessions, since September, and thanks to a few snow days we’re teaching double sessions now. So it’s a combination enjoyment and exhausted light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel feeling.
What’s on tap for your weekend? Hope the weather is cooperative and it’s a good one all around. If your work schedule means that this isn’t your weekend, please mentally shift this to include what’s on tap for YOUR next “weekend”! And please enjoy what you really come to Top Comments for… the trio of Top Comments, Mojo and Pictures that form the backbone of this longrunning community diary series. Thank you for being here!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? Contact brillig.
From both susans and TrueBlue Majority:
susans nominated MBNYC’s comment because “you know how when you are browsing for something to read at the library and everything is printed in Comic Sans?” while TrueBlueMajority felt it was “a prediction about the difficulty of DJT writing a post-presidency memoir.” From First Amendment’s Disgusting. Disgusted.
From Diogenes2008:
This comment by MaureenMower should be widely seen - it lays out all the facts on President Obama's speech on "Wall Street" and is well worth the time.
From Otteray Scribe:
In Gabe Ortiz’ story "ICE Really hates all your 'criminal space alien' prank calls. Good", Clio2 starts a thread that spins wildly off into the Twilight Zone of humor. No way to pick the best comment, so here is the whole thread.
