Well, another week has come and gone and what do we have to show for it? Do we have a Democratic Party leader? Nope. Do we have a set of talking points that clearly describes our beliefs and strikes a chord with voters? Nope. So, it looks like we have made no visible progress on these critical projects.
There was a yuge climate change rally in Washington yesterday. I guess all of the Democratic Party leaders were out of town since none of them were visible at the rally. Our party takes this issue very seriously and it would be nice if one of our elected officials attended the march and spoke or showed support for an issue that could determine the fate of our species and many other species of flora and fauna. Hillary tweeted her support to the marchers. I don’t like Hillary, but will give her a tip of the hat for tweeting her support. No snark or sarcasm. She took a stand that I didn’t see any other Dem leader take and deserves credit for doing this. She has security concerns so I understand why she couldn’t attend the march.
Of course when Hillary isn’t tweeting her support to the marchers, she’s busy undermining the most popular politician in America, Bernie Sanders. Bernie, while he was on the “unity tour”, showed up in Omaha without Perez (how convenient!) and endorsed the Democratic nominee for mayor of Omaha, Heath Mello. Whoops, Heath has a spotty pro choice record. Suddenly Perez, who previously had been ok with soft pro choice candidates says that no Dem candidate can be soft on a woman’s right to choose. And Bam! Ilyse Hogue from Naral instantly comes out with a scathing attack on Bernie and support for Perez. And Bam!, the WSJ instantly and blatantly misrepresents Mello’s record while he was in the Nebraska legislature (how convenient!).
But it looks like the Mello affair, from a Conservadem’s viewpoint, will at best not gain any traction and at worst backfire on them. You see, Conservadems have an uncanny ability to ignore their own debacles and persist with the same tactics that took us from a super majority to a pathetic loser party in eight years.
Of course the hypocrisy charge was leveled against Naral after they supported the 2016 VP choice, Tim Kaine who was a big time anti choice democrat. Now, Tim did a great job stacking the deck for Hillary’s nomination when he was DNC chair and he has recanted all of his anti woman ways and is extremely pro corporate. So Ilsye was ok with Hillary’s VP choice because she trusts Hillary. But when Bernie stumps for a soft on pro choice Dem nominee in a backwater town in the deep red state of Nebraska, he must be taken to the wood shed even though Bernie’s voting record has been rated as 100% pro choice by Naral and Planned Parenthood. ( I guess Ilyse doesn’t trust Bernie.)
The DNC has motioned for the lawsuit against them regarding the primaries to be dismissed. Their reasoning is: we don’t have to be fair so you can’t sue us for not being fair.
Conservatives love dynasties but their efforts to anoint Chelsea as the leader of the resistance aren’t working out so well.
Rep Sean Patrick Maloney has submitted his report on the 2016 election debacle to a small group of Democratic House leaders who are keeping it under tight wraps.
Which brings us to the final Conservadem update, President Obama’s $400K speaking engagement at Wall St. ( Where else?). Here is what we know:
- In 2008, Obama received more money from Wall St. than any other candidate in history.
- No Wall St bankers were ever prosecuted for felonies even though the companies they work for had to pay huge settlements for fraud and theft.
- $400K is not a lot of money to Obama who gets a $200K / year pension and just signed a publishing deal for $64 mm.
- He spoke at a health care conference. A subject that he has impacted greatly.
So why did he do it? I don’t think it was for the money ( all though he wouldn’t have done it for free.) or that he is getting paid back for his gross lack of prosecutorial action on Wall St. I think he feels entitled to this type of perk and isn’t worried at all about what the optics will do the Democratic party. He was the party leader during one of the worst declines in our party’s history and has no remorse about it all. Fellow Kossak, Tool, has a great diary about Reagan’s turn at the trough vs Obama’s.
