As Georgia Republican Karen Handel aligns herself with Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans in her bid to defeat Democrat Jon Ossoff in Georgia's 6th Congressional district, trouble is emerging on Trumpcare. Nationwide, Republicans are being told to sell a fantasy repeal bill that will eventually be passed rather than the monstrosity that just made it through the House. That's probably because of what polls like the one below buried in this Washington Post article are revealing even in deep red districts.
In a memo circulated this week by the conservative firm WPA Intelligence, Republicans were advised that “full repeal,” the campaign promise since 2010, is neither popular nor possible. In Georgia’s solidly Republican 6th District, where Democrat Jon Ossoff is trying to win Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price’s former congressional seat, supporters of keeping the ACA outnumbered opponents by a narrow 10-to-9 margin.
Let's say that again: In Georgia's 6th, Obamacare supporters now outnumber those who back repeal—meaning that big Rose Garden celebration for a highly unpopular repeal bill only serves to hurt Handel and other GOP candidates.
And here's the nationwide picture on Trumpcare:
A study released Wednesday by YouGov found 50 percent of voters opposed to the bill, and 33 percent in favor. Just 11 percent of voters had a “strong” positive opinion — 34 percent stood on the other side.
With any luck, Handel will just keep on embracing Trump, Trumpcare, and all her congressional colleagues.
Please give $3 to Jon Ossoff to help kick off the effort to turn the House blue and stop Donald Trump.
