This is a Democratic Blog
Actually, if You check the “rules of the road” this has been changed from the original above to “This site is for Democrats.” They seem to be close enough to mean essentially the same. Either way, I think it fairly important in either case to perhaps provide everyone with a definition of political party, since there seems to be some confusion going on. I lifted this definition directly from Wikipedia because it is succinct and represents accurately agreed upon Political Science definitions (this is very likely the definition you would have gotten in your Intro PoliSci class):
A political party is a group of people who come together to contest elections and hold power in the government.
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news to anyone who is otherwise unaware, but using this definition, the Democratic PARTY has been losing for awhile now across the U.S. at all levels of government. I suggest you figure out a way to reverse this trend.
If You are Explaining, You are Losing
Donald Trump has been campaigning for the next election from the moment he got sworn into office. Say what you will about this tactic, but it is worth noting. The Democrats on the other hand have spent the last 6 months re-litigating the 2016 election. That is a full 25% of the time between the last national election and the next, time is a wasting.
Put a period and move on
Sorry again for stating the obvious, but Clinton Lost to a Game Show Host. Please, feel free to distract yourselves in explaining this to yourselves and arguing among yourselves and blaming whoever you like, but, I just want to remind you there is a national election in 18 months. You might want to start figuring out a way to win that.
Structural Disadvantage For Democrats
Democrats have tremendous structural disadvantages in 2018 … and unless things REALLY swing … 2020 isn’t likely to be much, if any, better. You might want to remember that Democrats were not able to retake the House until AFTER George W. Bush was elected for a second time and was pummeled for his disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina.
Two more quick points:
Health Care is in the News
For some odd reason, advocates for Single Payer have come under some kind of weird attack of late it seems. Just for some understanding though — Single Payer Advocates are talking up Single Payer because
- Health Care is in the News
- Single Payer IS popular
- It is Easy to Explain
- It is Fiscally Conservative (Single Payer is way cheaper than the current U.S. system)
- It is Socially Liberal — Equal Care for Everyone
It is an easy Narrative to deliver, especially when most of the population already supports it.
Democrats need a Winning Narrative
“At least we aren’t as bad as Republicans” — This narrative has not been a winning strategy over the past several years. If You insist on sticking with this, I sincerely can not see how You are going to turn things around. I have dropped in occassionally over the past 6 months to see what is going on here — and honestly, I have got no clue what You all think you are doing, but I can tell you, from where I sit here in a Reddish Purple district — You look very much like you are preparing on losing the 2018 Midterm elections, and I don’t see much being offered for 2020. But, please — carry on bashing the most popular national politician … because he isn’t a Democrat I guess? And I am sure the weird Red-Baiting Russia-Trump investigation will surely yield electoral success? But, hey, fiddling while Rome burned was an absolute win for Nero!
