We’ve seen the attempts by a number of Republicans to blame Democrats for the Alexandria shooting. But in light of something that spewed from their side literally minutes after that carnage, those calls sound awfully hollow.
Just over half an hour after bullets started flying at the Republican baseball practice, religious right radio host Dave Daubenmire and his guest, fellow fundie host Sheila Zilinsky of Weekend Vigilante, praised Trump for pulling out of the Paris agreement. However, Zilinsky hit the ceiling at word that a number of state and local leaders had pledged to do what they could to fulfill the accord’s terms. Watch a clip here, via Right Wing Watch.
Zilinsky had especially harsh words for Jerry Brown. She actually went as far as to call for him to be lynched.
“And then you got these Logan Act treasonous hucksters–Jerry Brown from California, ‘Oh, I’m gonna sign the Paris.’ I mean, this guy should be hanging from a rope from the town square.”
How did Daubenmire respond? Not with an attempt to shut her down. Not by kicking her off the show. He said, “Amen.” Listen for yourself here; the exchange starts at around the 32-minute mark.
This was outrageous enough by itself. But just minutes after the butchery in Alexandria? Appalling. Well, apparently the criticism got to Daubenmire. He used today’s show to personally call out Kyle Mantyla of Right Wing Watch, who initially flagged his endorsement of Zilinsky’s lynching call. Watch a clip here.
Daubenmire called Mantyla a “sissy man,” a “lying serpent,” and a “snake” who was doing the work of his father—the devil. He also claimed—with a straight face—that Zilinsky was merely making a tongue-in-cheek reference when she called for Brown to be publicly hanged.
By calling her out, Daubenmire said, Mantyla and Right Wing Watch were “picking on a woman.” Hmmm, would he be saying the same thing if Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, or Stephanie Miller called for a Republican to be lynched? Not likely.
It says a lot about Daubenmire that he would not only allow someone to publicly call for an opponent to be lynched, but to kick and scream about being called out on it. Daubenmire must delete that Wednesday podcast, apologize to Brown, and ban Zilinsky from ever coming on his show again.
Let him have it on Facebook and on Twitter. And tell Zilinsky what you think of her outrageous threat on Facebook and on Twitter. While you’re at it, if Daubenmire isn’t willing to take it down, tell YouTube, Facebook, iTunes, Overcast, and Periscope to do it for him.
