Back in May I wrote this diary about the newsletter from Penzey’s Spices highlighting their new store in Janesville, Wisconsin, seemingly opened to poke Paul Ryan in the eye. Well, Bill has done it again. His latest newsletter/e-mail reads, in part:
Sadly, one spot where cooking alone cannot offset the damage the Republican leadership is working to do is the issue of taking healthcare insurance from twenty-three million Americans. Coverage for pre-existing conditions means life or death for so many. If you've ever had to wait a couple of days for test results that could give you the all clear, or reveal something much worse, you've had a small taste of what people with a loved one facing a pre-existing condition are going through every day right now. As one man we interviewed put it: “Without coverage for pre-existing conditions, first we will lose our house, then we will go bankrupt, then my wife will die.”
Next graf:
For anyone with a life-threatening, pre-existing condition, or with someone they love facing one, what Republicans in congress are doing right now is both cruel and unusual. And what makes this even more painful for so many trying to live with this is the sense that no one cares what is happening to them. We need to let these people know that leaving them dangling in uncertainty about what will happen to them, or to a loved one, possibly for years, is something we will not accept. We need to let them know we care, and whatever the outcome of the next vote on this in Congress ends up being, our next vote at the polls will be for someone who sees their access to healthcare as a right, not a privilege. (Emphasis mine)
It’s amazing to see a business person be this out front in terms of politics. Heck, the media doesn’t call it as bluntly as Bill does. So good on him.
My favorites are the non-salt blends. And no, I have no connection to the company, other than as a very satisfied customer.
