In 2012 I was laid off from work. I had insurance through my wife’s employer until 2013 when she was laid off. We couldn’t afford to put both of us on Cobra so we elected to only have my wife covered. I started getting sick around Thanksgiving 2013. We had no idea what was wrong with me, but I constantly shook uncontrollably from being cold, had severe night sweats, and fever as high as 104 degrees. Lastly, by the time I was diagnosed I had lost 25 pounds.
I tried to buy insurance through various insurance companies but was turned down for a pre-existing condition. They said I was not eligible due to a condition that happened 30 years prior. With this news in mind, I applied for insurance through a federally funded program administered through the state of California. This program was designed for people like me and would except you, pre-existing condition or not. However, in order to be eligible for this insurance you had to not have insurance for 6 months. This was right at the time when the Republicans in the House and Senate decided to shut down the government. Therefore, any funding for this insurance program was gone. THANK YOU GOP (not)!!!
Fortunately, ObamaCare started in full swing in January of 2014. I was one of the first to get insurance in California. Starting in January 2014 I could finally go to a doctor. It took until March 2014 that I was diagnosed. I started treatment (Chemotherapy) in April 2014. By the end of August 2014 I found out that I was cancer free. I am still Cancer free.
I was fortunate. Things fell into place at the right time. The Democrats were in Congress and ObamaCare passed Congress and was the law of the land. Really, how many of us are so fortunate? I consider myself very lucky. I will never vote for a Republican. You can’t trust a one of them.
I certainly do not understand the Republican viewpoint toward Health Care. They are more concerned with the cost of healthcare and yet couldn't give a damn how much they spend to make bombs, etc. GOP, you could take some of the money you’re using for bombs and put it into the frigging people that elected you. How could you of not figured that out by now? Or, you just don’t give a damn about the people that put you in office. Sorry, but it is looking like the latter.
By the Republican actions (look at TrumpCare, budget, etc.) they seem to think that health care is like a smorgasbord. Would you like coverage of cancer or a heart attack? You can choose one or the other. But GOP I forgot my crystal ball. Stupid me, I should of known that I was going to get cancer. Hell, doesn’t everyone know when they’re going to get a fatal disease. And yet, Trumpcare specifically says that members of congress will have a different policy. After all, who is going to worry about us common folk, other than ourselves. As Marie Antoinette once said, “Let them eat cake”. In today’s world the equivalent to that is, give them the shit health policy while congress and their families are fully covered. Congress gets bread and the rest of us, well, fuck off.
I say to the Republicans who voted for Trump, if you don’t like his policies, then what the fuck were you thinking of when you pulled the lever for Trump. Did you think he would have your best interest in mind? If so, you’re either kidding yourself or you’re just stupid.
Yes, ObamaCare has its problems. I could get into a whole dissertation on some of the problems, however, it does one thing that no GOP policy has ever done. It covers you for any health problems that may occur, no questions asked. Isn’t that what a health care policy/program is about, providing health care without making you bankrupt. GOP, you do not have a soul, empathy, or something has overwhelmed your judgement, like hate and greed? Most of you really make me wonder what goes on in your mind. I think there is something not quite right. The rest of the civilized world has healthcare except us. I don’t get it.
