So, a bit of Rachel Maddow-esque preface.
A favorite theme of Indian Hindi-language movies used to be the theme of separated siblings. The story would go like this. There is a happy family — dad, mom, a couple of kids. But one fateful day, the parents take their young children to a mela, a big country fair. By sad mischance, in the huge crowds and melee, the children get separated from the parents. One young brother is rescued by one kind couple, and the other brother ends up as a street kid. They each end up with completely separate lives. Soon it is 20 years later and they are grown up. A number of film-y things happen; the long-lost brothers meet, but don’t recognize each other and there is conflict between them. One may have grown up to be a policeman, the other to be a burglar. Then one day when they are beating each other up, suddenly, one brother sees a locket worn by the other, realization strikes and they recognize each other as siblings lost long ago. They tearfully embrace and sing a soulful song or two. All conflict between them ends. They join forces, bash up the villains, and live happily ever after.
SO.
Lately it has seemed that the US and Russia are brothers lost long ago in the Magh mela. They don’t realize it yet and mutual conflict arises from their separation. I think US and Russia should recognize they are better together than apart, and merge. All conflict between the adversaries will end and a happy ending will ensue.
If US and Russia merge into USPlusRussia, the white demographics problem facing GOP will be solved, not just for now but for many generations. Thankfully, the Democrats will be done (or almost done). The die-hard Leftists on both sides can run into each others’ arms and commiserate. The die-hard Rightists on both sides can run into each others’ arms and celebrate. NRA will be thrilled to bits.
Crimea and Ukraine will no longer be international issues. Alaska and California will no longer be problems (and the California Exit guy can come home from Moscow or wherever). USPlusRussia can together beat up on Europe as much as Trump and Putin want. USPlusRussia can abandon all climate change action, and the Arctic ice can melt faster, making drilling easier. USPlusRussia would have humongous oil reserves allowing the US to snub Saudi Arabia, finally. China will have a formidable new adversary-largest economy-sheconomy.
Russia will not need to interfere in US elections- it will be right in them! All elections will be won with more votes (huge numbers of more votes) and there will be no millions of fake votes to make Donald Trump feel bad. The Congressional investigations and the FBI enquiry into Donald Trump, Jared Kushner and their Russia connections can finally be ended. Kushner will not need a private channel to Moscow. Nothing Trump or Kushner ever did or ever will do will be illegal. They were just acting on a blinding realization, way ahead of their time.
Trump will finally be at peace and so everyone else will be at peace too. There will be no more angry morning tweets from him. No more need for Trump to release his taxes-Putin doesn’t, does he?Trump and Kushner can finally openly court Russian oligarchs and fix their cash flow issues. They can buy palaces in Russia and still be patriots! The US will no longer have prison overcrowding — all of Siberia would be at the service of its penal system. No more need for outsourcing of jobs— plenty of skill, talent and industrial capacity in Russia!
The merger of US and Russia will be a happy ending to end all happy endings. It would have taken a Trump and Putin to look at each other across the cold unfriendly expanses and discover a long lost connection which the cruel world still denies.
