I don’t know if I have to say much more than this definition (but I will):
Moral Turpitude. A phrase used in Criminal Law to describe conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty, or good morals. Crimes involving moral turpitude have an inherent quality of baseness, vileness, or depravity with respect to a person's duty to another or to society in general.
I’m no lawyer, but I read that and immediately thought of Trump’s behavior and actions both during the campaign and subsequently. I’m sure you can make a list, so I won’t bother.
What I think is worth wondering about, especially for the House of Representatives, the body of government responsible for initiating impeachment proceedings, is if Trump’s clear moral turpitude on so many fronts clears the bar of “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
I’ve seen it written that no Republican will consider impeachment before the 2018 elections, and I get that in a self-preservatory way. But what about after that? What about country before self? Before party? What about a characteristic I haven’t noticed being exhibited by many of today’s Republican politicians, integrity?
The House Judiciary Committee could begin, right now, the process leading to Articles of Impeachment to be voted on by the House after the 2018 elections. If passed, the Senate could carry on.
I realize that if Turp is impeached, Pence follows. But I think he would be a far lesser burden on the American people and could conceivably stop, if not turn around, the almost universal international dismay caused by the abrogation of American leadership by this, er, president.
So maybe we could begin referring to Trump as “Turp” to get the ball rolling.
At least in our minds and hearts. As patriots, we need to resist moral turpitude at the highest level in the land and clean our house.
For what it’s worth.
