Buckle up, folks. After Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley threatened to hold a committee vote on Monday unless he got a definitive answer on testimony from the woman who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her, the lawyers for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford sent a response making a “modest request” for one more day.
But the letter from the lawyer for Dr. Blasey Ford, Debra Katz, is a master class in exposing the bullying tactics Grassley and the GOP have employed all week in the ongoing negotiations over whether Ford would ultimately testify.
First, here’s the quick-and-dirty on how things went down today between the two camps (keep in mind that Dr. Blasey Ford spent her afternoon detailing the death threats she’s received to the FBI):
At this point, Katz responds to Grassley with a letter including the play-by-play of how nasty Grassley and GOP Judiciary Committee staffers have treated Dr. Blasey Ford all week. At the end, Katz concludes:
"The 10:00 p.m. deadline is arbitrary. Its sole purpose is to bully Dr. Ford and deprive her of the ability to make a considered decision that has life-altering implications for her and her family. She has already been forced out of her home and continues to be subjected to harassment, hate mail, and death threats. Our modest request is that she be given an additional day."
Check out the letter below. I encourage you to read it in its entirety.
