Short item. Just a thought. Mueller must be contemplating how he approaches Trump knowing that he is not given to following norms, traditions, regulations. Particularly when he may be trapped. Trump has demonstrated that he is more than capable of doing absolutely anything, sacrifice anyone. He is amoral. So when people think Trump can be compelled to testify, I see him fighting tooth and nail. And he would be emboldened by the unwavering support of his base and apparently Congressional Republicans, not to mention the possible bias of the Supreme Court. Trump no doubt believes, perhaps correctly, the votes are not there to impeach him. In such a scenario, we are clearly headed for a constitutional crisis and Trump would not think twice about precipitating that.
Mueller and his team must have already have been gaming various responses to this possibility.
I believe Mueller to be an honorable man and that he has been investigating Russian election influence in such a way as to give Trump every benefit of the doubt. I don’t believe Mueller has been “hunting” Trump. On the contrary. He is doing a thorough job so as to leave no conclusion other than the one the evidence presents.
Having said that, I also believe that obstruction of justice is the “obvious” subject of the Mueller investigation and interview topic for Trump. However, collusion and money laundering are somewhat less obvious or discussed, but charges that Mueller may keep in his pocket and utilize only if Trump were to attempt undermining the investigation by instigating a constitutional impasse. Our democracy could be in ruins if the rule of law is violated.
