I am very confused right now. I am in Contra Costa county in California, and I’m sitting here filling out my ballot. I typically start with progressive and/or democratic voter guides then dive into each nominee and issue to make my decision.
That said, as I was googling guides I couldn’t find any suggestions on the judiciary. I honestly may not have searched for the right terms, but I’ll tell you what I could find. TWO websites with recommendations from a Republican point of view. One of which looks extremely professional and is super easy to navigate. Every single listed judge in Contra Costa was given a clear Yes or No recommendation. I was, frankly, frightened.
When are we going to learn that ALL of these areas of our government matter? Why aren’t Democrat or progressive sites releasing guides for every county in the country with recommendations? If they are, why are they so difficult to find?!
Republicans elevated a RAPIST to the Supreme Court. Meanwhile Democrats can’t even compile a god damned list to help guide voters in the right direction. (Sorry I’m a bit worked up about this)
In the end, I looked at the Republican websites (I won’t link them here since I don’t want to give them exposure of any sort), and I then leaned toward voting the opposite after a bit of research. LA Times, Medium.com and other sites talked about some of the candidates as well, and I was right. I ended up voting the opposite of what the Republican websites recommended.
This is more of a rant than anything. But if anyone knows of clear judicial voting guides for Progressives/Democrats/Liberals, please comment on them below so I can edit and add it to this blog. I have been sick to my stomach since Trump took office, so I’m hoping that my pointing this out can get ahead of this issue for some. Thanks.
