The last two mornings I read my Austin American Statesman newspaper online in Amarillo, Texas, where I was visiting this likely Trumplandia bastion to attend my niece’s wedding Saturday. (I was heartened to see a couple of Beto stickers on autos there though.) During breakfast I was subjected to screens of Fox news in my hotel lobby. The main news event (fortunately with no sound) was images of the Honduran migration crowds tearing down fences on, I suppose, their way to Mexico and the U.S.A. I read that Trump has been threatening Mexico and military intervention and loudly wringing his hands.
“Why now,” I thought? It occurred to me that the United States has often in history instigated riots and other mayhem in countries to further the U.S. interests and to me the timing of this latest migration event is exactly the kind of October surprise Trump needs to fire up his base and steal another news cycle. Especially since he really believes inciting fear of the scary brown people is a winning formula for winning the hearts of the whole nation.
I’m just an observer of life and not an investigator, but if anyone out there had some investigative chops, it would be interesting to see if there is any chance that this current migration “disaster” was set up and egged on by Trump affiliated folks.
What are some avenues to generate the wave of migrants? Money to coyote types to egg folks on? Money to the gangsters to instill fear in the populace? Perhaps seeding some paid ne’er-do-wells to tear down a fence or two along the way to further accent the “mob” nature of the migrants? I find it too damned convenient for this to have occurred spontaneously when the GOP knows they hold a loosing hand in the midterm elections. It smacks of the kind of desperate ploy Trump would engage in given his penchant for all things dictatorial. How hard would it be for a seasoned team of investigators to trace such a manufactured event? If evidence could be found to show the migration event was manufactured, it would make for some good news to further prove Trump’s corruption.
