Today I wear a yarmulkah. As a Reform Jew, I would normally be seen in a yarmulkah only on the High Holidays — today is different. Today I am in mourning and want to share my grief. The loss of eleven innocent lives at the Tree of Life Synagogue to the hatred of a deranged gunman has touched my in an intensely personal way. They are my family. As their family sits Shivah for the next week, I wear my yarmulkah in support of their mourning.
Join me. Find that yarmulkah tucked away in a drawer (the one from your friend’s or family’s wedding or Bar Mitzvah or the high holidays) — wear it proudly. Let the world know we stand bravely together. We will not be intimidated. We will not shrink in fear. Let us celebrate our strength together.
