The field for 2020 continues to grow as we got a congressman who has already announced that he is running for parties presidential nomination in 2020. I personally believe that we will have a field of good Democrats that will run not only in national elections but in state and local elections as well. Tom Perez did a really good job of letting Democratic primary voters decide who the candidate is going to be. In return, we picked up some good seats.
Former Congressman John Delaney ( Maryland 6)
Delaney comes from a business background and is the co-founder of Capital Source. Prior to CapitalSource, he founded HealthCare Financial Partners, a successful company that was started in 1993 and became a public company in 1996 (1) Much like Congressman Swalwell. Delaney ran for Congress in 2012 and re-elected in 2014 and 2016. Delaney has served on the House Financial Services Committee and Joint Economic Committee. He also served on the subcommittees for Housing and Insurance and Terrorism and Illicit Finance.
Legislation.
In his first term, he cosponsored the Reauthorization of the Early Act to educate young women. In his second term, he cosponsored the Faster Care for Veterans Act to help our veterans receive faster care at the VA facilities scheduling their own appointments. All of which were signed into law. (1)
2019-2020 outlook
In 2017, Delaney announced he was seeking the nomination for President of the United States. He has named former Maryland Democratic Party Chair and Treasure to O’Malley’s presidential campaign Terry Lierman his campaign Co-Chair. He has also named Iowa native and was a chief of staff to Former Congressman Bruce Braley as a Senior Advisor. (1)
Much like Swalwell, it has been noted that it is very rare for a member of the House to jump all the way to the presidency. However, I do believe there is a place for Delaney in a Democratic administration if that were to be the case. Possible cabinet positions for Delaney would be Secretary of Commerce or Director of Management and Budget.
