Daily Kos is excited to announce that voters have passed three key voting rights-related ballot measures endorsed by the organization: Michigan Propositions 2 and 3 and Florida Amendment 4. Proposition 2 will reform Michigan’s partisan redistricting process with an independent commission and transparent standards; Proposition 3 will dramatically expand and protect voting rights in Michigan; and Amendment 4 will end the racist practice of disenfranchising those with past felony convictions in Florida and restore the voting rights of more than 1.4 million residents.
“Daily Kos is thrilled that these pro-democracy ballot measures will now become law in these key states,” said Daily Kos political director David Nir. “Passing Propositions 2 and 3 in Michigan and Amendment 4 in Florida will create lasting democratic change. Ending Michigan’s egregious partisan gerrymandering—which has repeatedly given more congressional and legislative seats to Republicans even when they don’t earn the most votes statewide—and improving ballot box access will give voters fair and equal voices in their government.
"Restoring voting rights to 1.4 millions Floridians, a disproportionate number of whom are people of color, will not only end a historically racist policy but will also help give underrepresented populations the political voice they’ve been unjustly denied.”
Daily Kos has led the way in supporting Democrats across the country this cycle, raising over $8.7 million for candidates in small, grassroots donations in 2017-2018. We will continue this crucial work into the 2020 cycle.
