When the State of Illinois puts out political maps, they have the entire state and NE Illinois. That’s where Chicago is, and the population density is so great that a map of the entire state can’t show district, even Congressional district, lines there with any clarity.
Well, it’s a fairly blue area and the Democratic legislature managed to shove a good share of the red precincts into 2 congressional districts. the results look like Russian dolls. There’s the blue 8th CD, and then the red 6th CD wrapping around it on 3 sides. Then there is the very-red 14th CD wrapping around the 6th on the same 3 sides.
Well, last night the 6th and the 14th went Democratic.
That’s the sort of thing which can’t happen when you gerrymander to produce a red sink. It can’t happen, but it did.
