In our latest mass killing it’s becoming clear that people had called authorities on Cruz, had said he was a danger, that he wanted to kill people. The signs were there, the FBI had looked into him.
This is a recurring theme, friends, family, or acquaintances have reported dangerous individuals who go on to kill multiple people. Our laws and rights protect even the unhinged from their rights being violated by preemptive detainment or firearms seizures. The FBI looks at people that should have full warrant scrutiny and have their guns confiscated
Firearms come with a responsibility to use them in ways that do not pose a danger to innocent people. Guns are not a right, they are a privilege, just as driving a car is not a right. There are standards that apply, and unhinged people who openly talk about killing people do not qualify as responsible gun owners. People with anger management issues do not qualify, people who have been involved in domestic violence do not qualify. And those with known psychological disorders affecting stability sure as hell do not qualify for gun ownership.
Society is going to reach a point where gun violence is not okay, but what’s not okay is that gun ownership is seen as a god given right (the hard right’s position).
Already threats against neighbors involving guns will likely result in your guns being confiscated. Who wants an unhinged neighbor that everyone is afraid of because he is prone to threatening to shoot those who annoy them?
We see the line crossed in social media all the time, as far as I’m concerned the hard right winger that talks about killing liberals needs to be paid a visit and have his “rights” to own guns revoked.
Millions of responsible gun owners will fully support harsh mental profiling and treating gun ownership as a privilege, not a right. Going after guns loses millions of responsible gun owners, go after those who are not mentally fit to own guns. Go after those who facilitate guns getting into the hands of those who are unfit.
Those on the hard right who think this is a right are many of the people who would not fare well with harsher scrutiny, they are the people with mental instability and anger management issues.
Heck, if you still support Trump it’s an indicator that there is something deeply problematic, Lol
But seriously, this is about mental health, identifying those who are prone to violence, and having the right as a society to say who has a gun or not. And yes if a certain profile keeps being the ones killing people and kids in schools, society has a right to profile and subject those in that profile to a harsher degree of scrutiny.
The statistics pertaining to domestic violence resulting in murder are horrific, harsh treatment of those people alone will change the numbers of murders, as well as curbing incidents where these people go off the deep end.
Society is getting fed up to where we say enough, I’m concerned that it will manifest itself in actions that make very little if any difference. Magazine size makes a difference, it needs to be all states so that there are none where those in restricted states have a source. How hard is it for the guy in California to go to Nevada to get 30 round mags?
This is about more rigorous profiling people who then can’t have guns at all.
