Hundreds of people have gathered outside of ICE in San Francisco (630 Sansome St), beginning at noon today, Wednesday, February 28th, in immediate response to a number of ICE operations that took place throughout the Bay Area over the last few days, with 150 people arrested and detained by ICE agents.
They’ve formed chained, linked bodies outside of the entrances to the facility, and are blocking traffic at the intersections adjacent to the building.
This last weekend Mayor Libby Schaaf of Oakland, CA, sent out a press release announcing that she had solid information that ICE was planning large deportation raids in the Bay Area in the next few days, a press release that proved prescient and which has now received national publicity. She has also indirectly exchanged “pleasantries” with ICE Director Holman, after Holman criticized her statement.
Protests have been intermittently ongoing in front of ICE in San Francisco for the last several weeks, but this is almost certainly the largest so far, and may still be going on into the early evening if you are in San Francisco of thereabout and care to join the protesters.
