The NRA supported gun control in 1933 that was so effective, deaths by Thompson not only declined they stopped. Only one death by Thompson has occurred in all the decades since. The law has been tested through the courts. I propose we champion that law, apply it to AR15s and AK47s to highlight the fact that gun control works and that the NRA was not always a bat shit crazy terrorist organization. You can still own a Thompson but you have to go through a lengthy application process and a large fee to receive a special license. Take the fight directly to them. Use their own singular success against them. The NRA will not be able to make the claim that “gun control doesn’t work” because this was a time that it did work exceedingly well and they had a hand in it.
Let’s congratulate them on their success and use the same law, updated, to require a special license for those weapons capable of mass slaughter, and for those who wish to go through the process and pay the large fee, to check those weapons into their local armory when not being used as is the case with the Swiss. Make the owners file a “flight plan” like pilots do for every use.
Gun owners have been getting along fine for eight decades without the Thompson . They have still had their second amendment and all their other guns. It seems nobody even missed it.
Lets use what worked in the past, tested through the courts.
