Ever imagine having your own personal robot?
Developments in Artificial Intelligence are fascinating, but many folks are frankly terrified at the idea of our unfolding Robot Overlord Revolution. Steven Pinker laughs at those fears:
Should you be afraid of the robot apocalypse? (I don’t mean AI taking our jobs, I mean AI hurting or enslaving us.)
…
In reality we design AI, and if we place safeguards in our designs, we truly have nothing to fear. Machines are what we allow them to be. The dread of them turning evil really says more about our own psyches than it does about robots. Pinker believes an alpha male thinking pattern is at the root of our AI fears, and that it is misguided. Something can be highly intelligent and not have malevolent intentions to overthrow and dominate, Pinker says, it’s called women.
Of course, they’ve already walked (or rolled) among us for some time now. Do any of you have a roomba, a kitty litter cleaning bot or a robot lawn mower? Or a totally rude robot alarm clock that navigates away from you if you snooze too long, so you have to get out of bed to chase it down to shut it off? Ok, maybe they can be evil.
Given how difficult travel has gotten this Robot suitcase that follows you around like a little puppy seems like a great idea (and is it fully weaponize should someone decide to steal it?). Since it comes with a GPS chip you’d never have to worry about the airlines losing your suitcase again. All that and it charges your iPhone and helps you pick up girls, too.
How about installing a Robot Chef in your kitchen on your next remodel?
What I really need is a robot to throw the ball for Cayden several hours a day and wear him out. Doesn’t seem like much to ask.
What do you want to talk about today?
