Our little local newspaper comes out twice a week on Wednesday’s and Saturdays. It has two sections...each being just six pages. The first section is “news.” The news section has a few local stories among nationally syndicated folks like Michael Reagan (Ronald Reagan's son who is an “Alex Jones” type whack job who writes about mostly RW CT crap). Most of the local news, frankly, revolves around the Police Department or CDF (California Department of Forestry who now runs our local Fire Dept. as Paradise couldn’t afford one anymore).
The second section is the sports section which is also six pages. They have local high school sports news and they follow Bay Area teams. If some sport is having their playoffs, that’s in the paper. But if I want to follow any other teams I have to go to the internet.
Another thing in the paper is the “For the Record” section. It’s the police blotter and has every single thing our police force dealt with including every phone call to the police station itself. It’s pretty mundane stuff, as you’d expect for a small town. I read it thoroughly so I can see what area is having burglaries taking place. That’s the #1 crime here. People who do that, for some reason, work areas of the town at any given time. I’ve actually chased away some folks from here that were clearly casing our area. It’s easy to spot them. I live on a dead end street with six houses. I know everyone who lives here and all the vehicles they drive.
Over the years, two homes were robbed on our street. Those homes were the only ones without dogs. So, if I see vehicles that come down the road on a Sunday (just doing a little weekend driving about...right?) that don’t belong here, I make a mental note. If I then see one of those vehicles driving slowly down our road on Monday and then again Tuesday, I know they are casing the area looking to see what driveways don’t have cars in them that did have cars parked on Sunday (thus those people are at work). And they determine which homes don’t have dogs. Voila! Now they know which home to burglarize.
Twice I got in my car and started following them as they were leaving. Funny thing about that. They realize what’s up and then hit the gas and scram. I chase them and get right on their tails for a while to get their license plate, then I peel away. I never see those vehicles again. They know they’ve been busted before they were able to strike.
I thought I’d share some of the recent things that popped up in the “For the Record” section with you just to give you an idea of what goes on around here. Some of these things literally make no sense to me. As you’ll see most of this stuff is “nothing burgers.” Some of it I personally believe is kinda police harassment. And you’ll discover that indeed someone was casing an area and apparently made a score.
