I’m trying to absorb today’s indictment. But then I hit paragraph 43 and found something that shocked me.
According to paragraph 43(a) of the indictment, “on or about August 15, 2016, the Conspirators, posing as Guccifer 2.0, received a request for stolen documents from a candidate for the U.S. Congress.”
Who was that candidate? Is this public already? Do we know?
The indictment then alleges, “The Conspirators responded using the Guccifer 2.0 persona and sent the candidate stolen documents related to the candidate’s opponent.”
Did any GOP candidate for Congress release embarrassing documents about an opponent at that time? Did any candidate for Congress unexpectedly announce that he or she was ending his or her campaign?
That’s paragraph 43(a).
According to paragraph 43(b), the Conspirators, posing as Guccifer 2.0, also “transferred approximately 2.5 gigabytes of data stolen from the DCCC to a then-registered state lobbyist and online source of political news.” The indictment alleges that “The stolen data included donor records and personal identifying information for more than 2,000 Democratic donors.”
Who would this “state lobbyist and online source of political news” be?
And then we get to paragraph 43(c): the Conspirators, posing as Guccifer 2.0, “sent a reporter stolen documents pertaining to the Black Lives Matter movement. The reporter responded by discussing when to release the documents and offering to write an article about their release.”
Does anyone have an idea as to who that was?
My questions are sincere. I have followed the Russian scandal generally since it began, and I do not know who is being referred to in paragraph 43.
This is very serious stuff. The people described in paragraph 43 appear to have knowingly received stolen goods. And the candidate for Congress requested stolen documents.
