Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) says he’s not sure whether he’s the congressman mentioned in Monday’s indictment of a Russian gun-rights activist for acting as an unregistered agent of the Kremlin — but he is sure that the charge against the woman is “bogus.”
The indictment of 29-year-old Mariia Butina notes that she had discussions with a prominent Russian official — believed to be Alexander Torshin — about his plans to “meet with a U.S. Congressman during a Congressional Delegation trip to Moscow in August 2015."
Rohrabacher said on Tuesday that he was part of that delegation, but he said he was there with at least one other lawmaker and a larger group of Americans.
While Rohrbacher claims not to know if he’s the congresscritter named in the Butina indictment, he apparently wouldn’t worry even if he were. Because, ya know, the whole thing is just so STUPID!!!
“It’s ridiculous. It’s stupid,” Rohrabacher said. “She’s the assistant of some guy who is the head of the bank and is a member of their Parliament. That’s what we call a spy? That shows you how bogus this whole thing is.”
“This is an attempt to undermine the president’s ability to have better relationships with Russia,” he added.
So establishing “better relationships with Russia” is now the go-to excuse for things like Rohrbacher’s 2016 meeting with Natalia Veselnitskaya two months before she hooked up with Junior and Manafort at the Trump Tower meeting?
Or how about his meeting with Julian Assange in August 2017? From Foreign Policy:
In August, Rohrabacher met with Julian Assange, who during the campaign posted documents stolen from Democratic Party computer systems, and subsequently tried to broker the WikiLeaks founder’s departure from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he has been in hiding.
In exchange for safe passage, Assange would reportedly have provided the White House with evidence that Russia was not responsible for providing WikiLeaks with a tranche of stolen documents.
Now, that’s some evidence the White House could have used as a sure-fire Putin pacifier. So why didn’t they take Assange up on his offer?
Must be because they were STUPID! Right, Congressman?
