Most people are aware that Andres Manuel Lopez, a strong progressive, won the presidential election in Mexico—despite the violence and criminal activity. But what most people do not know—and I must ask why this major news story is not being covered—is that women running for Congress during the July 1 elections won an unprecedented series of victories.
Believe it or not, come Dec. 1 women will make up 49 percent of the lower house of congress and 51 percent of the new Senate. Moreover, women will also make up 50 percent of state legislatures across Mexico. The powerful Mayor of Mexico City will be a woman too. Apparently this all began with a law to make elections fairer to women and better for everyone. Does anyone know more about this?
SHATTERING! VIVA MEXICO! Now let’s do it in the great U.S.A.
