A Public Policy Poll released today shows Democrat Tony Evers defeating Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker by 49% to 44%. This is the first poll released after Tuesday’s primary.
The poll surveyed 600 voters on August 15 and 16. Partisan breakdown of the poll was 36% Democrat, 35% Independent, and 29% Republican.
The poll might be dismissed by some since PPP is a Democratic polling organization, but other recent polls have shown larger leads for Evers.
Two polls released before the primary election also showed Evers leading Walker. An NBC News/Marist College Poll released on July 26 showed Evers leading Walker by 13 points. An Emerson College poll from July 30 had Evers beating Walker 48 percent to 41 percent, with 7 percent of voters still undecided.
A new survey of Wisconsin voters conducted by the Marquette University Law School is slated to be released next week.
However Walker is said to have $4.8 million for the fall campaign while Democratic funds are depleted by the primary.
While Walker and other Wisconsin Republicans are strong supporters of President Donald Trump, they were taken aback when Trump tweeted on August 12 it would be a “great” if customers would boycott motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson which is based in Milwaukee.
Website 538 gives PPP a “B” as a pollster.
Cook’s Political Report rates Wisconsin Governor as a race that leans Republican. Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball moved the race to tossup yesterday.

SC CD-1 Shifts Toward Democrats
www.cookpolitical.com/...
Cook’s Political Report today shifted South Carolina CD-1 one position toward the Democrats by changing its rating from likely Republican to lean Republican.
Incumbent Congressman Mark Sanford was defeated in the Republican primary in June by Katie Arrington who is now defending the seat based in Charleston and coastal areas of the state.
Arrington was injured in an automobile accident which slowed her campaign.
And:
Democrat Joe Cunningham has outraised Republican Katie Arrington in his bid to recapture South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, which his party hasn’t held since 1981.
Cunningham received the bulk of his money through ActBlue, an online fundraising platform for Democratic candidates that typically draws small-donor contributions from the grassroots. He has pledged not to take any money from political action committees or incur any campaign debts.
SC CD-1 has a Cook PVI of R +10. Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball has SC CD-1 as likely Republican.
