The GOP will once again run negative campaign ads attacking Nancy Pelosi to motivate their base to vote in the 2018 Midterm Elections. According to The Hill, Republicans have plans to use Pelosi as a midterm motivator.
Republicans running for House seats in 2018 have featured House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in 34 percent of their broadcast ads, according to data provided to USA Today.
The number of times Pelosi — who has been a longtime target of the GOP — is being featured in attack ads this year marks a significant hike from past elections.
She was featured in 13 percent of ads in 2014 and 9 percent of ads in 2016, USA Today noted.
Steve Bannon is already describing the 2018 Election as a referendum on Nancy Pelosi.
….. he suggests that the election essentially will be a “choice” between Trump and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, or between Trump and impeachment.
The time has come for Democrats to counter these Republican talking points with a few voter education ads highlighting Nancy Pelosi’s leadership skills and achievements as the former Speaker of the House and current Minority Leader in the 2016 Midterm Election.
These voter education ads are important for voters like myself residing in swing states. I live in Wisconsin. As many of you may know, Wisconsin has three big election contests this November.
Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) and Governor Scott Walker (R) are running for re-election. Baldwin will face Leah Vulkmir (R). If Baldwin wins re-election, she will serve a second senate term.
Walker is campaigning for a third term as governor. Walker made national headlines with his union busting bill and right-to-work legislation.
Scott Walker vaulted to national prominence over his attacks on the rights of 175,000 Wisconsin workers shortly after taking office in 2011. His divisive attacks on hardworking Wisconsinites continue to polarize the state. In 2015 he continued his agenda of attacking working families and unions when he signed a wrong for Wisconsin right to work law, undermining the strong relationships built between private unions and their employers.
Tony Evers, the state superintendent, won the Democratic Primary on August 14th to challenge Walker. Public Policy Polling has released its results today indicating Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Tony Evers leads Walker by 5 points.
The poll, conducted by the liberal firm Public Policy Polling, surveyed nearly 600 Wisconsin voters on the two days following Tuesday’s primary election, Aug. 15 and 16.
Evers received support from 49 percent of those surveyed, compared to Walker’s 44 percent. Seven percent were undecided. The margin of error was 4 percent.
This governor’s race will be a difficult one for Evers to win because Walker is receiving dark money from conservative groups as reported in a New York Times article.
Mr. Walker’s recall coffers swelled with the help of some familiar Republican donors: Sheldon Adelson, the Nevada casino magnate ($250,000); Richard DeVos, an Amway co-founder and owner of the Orlando Magic basketball team ($250,000); and Bob Perry, the Texas home builder who died in 2013 ($490,000).
Not to mention these state-wide races, Wisconsin voters must decide to re-elect Brad Schimel for State Attorney General. Democrats in Wisconsin have recruited Josh Kaul who is the son of former Democratic Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager. Former Vice President Joe Biden has endorsed Kaul. This race is important because Schimel has joined Texas in striking down provisions of the Affordable Care Act.
Eight years after the Affordable Care Act became law, Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel joined his Texas counterpart last week in filing yet another lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the law.
Whether the lawsuit is successful probably won’t be known for years. But that may not matter.
The lawsuit is certain to appeal to the Republican Party’s base, reminding people of the party’s continued opposition to the law while drawing attention away from its failure to repeal, much less replace, the law, said Philip Rocco, an assistant professor of political science at Marquette University.
In my opinion, the US Senate seat, Governor’s seat, and the State Attorney’s seat are three Wisconsin offices the Democrats must win in November. Wisconsin needs a Democratic governor to negotiate congressional redistricting maps. Also, we need to keep the US Senate seat to make it harder for Republicans to appoint ultra-conservative judicial nominees. Finally, Wisconsinites need to toss out Schimel to preserve the pre- existing protection clause in Obamacare.
The Wisconsin Republican Party will employ any tactic to hold or win these three state-wide seats. In the past, the GOP has villianized Pelosi to motivate their base.
I am recruiting people in Wisconsin or any where in the country to join me in creating and providing funds for voter education campaign ad on Pelosi. Democrats cannot will seats in these swing states if GOP negative campaign ads are not refuted in the political space.
Please share your thoughts. I am gathering research on her voting record and key speeches to use in the issue ads. If you have any pertinent information to share about Pelosi issue ads, please post your comments. Also, you are invited to private message me if this option is available on the blog.
Lastly, I am NOT an operative of Nancy Pelosi. I have not contacted her or anyone connected to her about the voter education ad campaign. In fact, I have never met Pelosi or corresponded with her. I am a concerned Wisconsin voter wishing to defeat Republicans for the 2018 Midterm Election.
The GOP in Wisconsin has effectively tied Democrats to Nancy Pelosi, and it is time for the Democratic Party to counter these Republican negative ads with a message about her accomplishments and skills as a leader.
