They range in every mood from happy/hilarious to sad to funny and mad/livid.
All memes are not appropriate, far too many of them are not making the point they were trying to make, and a lot of them are historically inaccurate or often plain crude.
But a Meme, like a political cartoon, is supposed to be short and get the deepest point across with a few more than 140 Twitter characters.
There are moments when words don’t do it and the graphic itself paints a thousand words, so something akin to a “diary” becomes necessary, which this ‘meme’ is.
The ones that put me on the floor, and that I had the hardest time recovering from were all of those “Chair” memes after Clint Eastwood showed up during the RNC Mitt Romney campaign when Romney was running against Barack Obama’s second term.
There they were back to back, almost non-stop for nearly an entire month after the convention. Every day I would log online, there was another one funnier than the last — but I had a real hoot with the “Chairey” one from the Pee Wee Herman Show. I sputtered, choked and had to stand up and jump up and down to keep from falling on the floor LAUGHING OUT LOUD.
All Eastwood had to say “Well, when you invite someone to speak and don’t give them a topic, you get what you get.”
The GOP brigade just wanted him to show up and say whatever yadda-yadda’s and then end with the old tired lame dried up fried “Go ahead. Make my day,” classic ending from one of his old one-dimensional movies, but there he stood having an argument with an empty chair that was supposed to be Barack Obama seated in-absentia.
President Obama, man of grace and finesse and wit and wisdom, and the biggest intestinal fortitude in the history of Presidents, actually called Eastwood to say that though the point ended up being a point of hilarity for longer than it should have, he still had all the respect for him in the world.
I suspect Barack and Michelle Obama also got a tremendous guffaw out of it, as well.
But when you run into a really really REALLY good Meme, you gotta share.
I dare anyone reading this to top THAT one (the one above).
