Republicans have a 23-seat majority in the House, but they believe as many as 45 Republican-held seats could be in jeopardy this November. That means the GOP will have to make some tough decisions about which of their vulnerable incumbents to continue backing financially and which to abandon.
“This is the time of year when tough decisions have to be made,” said Ken Spain, a longtime former top National Republican Congressional Committee staffer. “There are likely going to be a number of unhappy Republican members of Congress in the coming weeks.” [...]
“At this point in the cycle with a field this large, difficult choices will have to be made,” said Brian Walsh, a former senior House GOP campaign official who now oversees the pro-Trump America First Action super PAC, which is slated to spend millions on congressional races.
“Such is the world we live in now,” Walsh added.

At the top of the list to be dropped, Politico reports, are Virginia Rep. Barbara Comstock, Pennsylvania Rep. Keith Rothfus, and Iowa Rep. Rod Blum. But if there are really 45 potentially endangered Republicans, the cuts are going to have to go deeper than that, which means a lot of sweating Republicans.
