Voters in my Pennsylvania congressional district are receiving a peculiar mailing. The cover letter states it is “commissioned by the Republican Party” and has Ronna McDaniel’s name on the letter head. It is deceptively titled “2018 Congressional District Census” and is covered with all sorts of dire-sounding tags like “Official Document” “Do Not Destroy” and “Final Notice”. The form letter is dated, the date reads “Wednesday Morning”.
It includes a 47 question survey with intrusive personal questions and leading “push poll” type political questions, and ends with a plea for donations to Republican National Committee.
But the odd thing is that, at least round here, these are being mailed to likely Democrats. I’ve heard of three people who received this particular mailing, all are Democrats and at least two are fairly active with Indivisible type groups. I (for reasons I will not trouble you with) am currently registered as a Republican) and did not receive the mailing myself.
Surely the RNC has a sophisticated voter contact rolls and this could not have been an accident What are they up to?
