Everything Anyone Wants To Know, About The Northern Pass Project.
Which is a catchy name; for, building a long distance, high voltage-electrical energy transmission system, consisting of, over-head power lines and underground electrical cable pipelines.
Plans; by these giant energy corporations, that the people of New Hampshire, have been able to foil.
It’s a, double whammy. Besides fire hazards caused by these high-voltage power lines. There’s an even bigger risk, of electrocution.
It’s a terrible idea to put high voltage power lines, all over, a snow covered terrain. Duh! Electric and water don’t mix.
Snow started, last week in Oct, this year and It still snows in April up here.
Those big energy companies, just don’t want to, admit their beaten and go away.

The Northern Pass Transmission Project, is a corporate partnership between US residential energy provider, Eversource and Canada’s, Hydro-Quebec.
Proposing to construct a 192-mile, high-voltage, electric transmission line, from Canada, through New Hampshire.
Which would; slice through, scenic landscapes and communities.
Hydro-Québec and its local partner, Eversource Energy Corp, face stiff, local resistance to their proposed 1,090 megawatt transmission project through New Hampshire
Northern Pass; is widely, un-popular, in NH and surrounding areas.
Granite State Poll Shows Record Opposition To Northern Pass. August 20, 2018 News From-No To Northern Pass.
More than 30 towns voted to oppose the project. Thousands of individuals have expressed their opposition to the Department of Energy and more than 95%, of 4,500 public commenters, have stated their strong opposition.
The project was introduced to the public in October 2010 as a private "merchant project" and shortly thereafter became one of the most controversial proposals the state has ever seen.
An environmental impact report; from the US Department of Energy, regarding, the proposed Northern Pass power transmission project in New Hampshire, says the proposal could have a negative effect on tourism, wildlife and property values.
Summary-Final Northern Pass Transmission Line Project Environmental Impact Statement Chapter 3, Section 3.1.1.
Overall, construction of the Project, would result in short-term visual impacts from the presence of machinery and construction activities and the visibility of above ground structures and facilities would result in long-term impacts to visual resources.
The visibility of large industrial-appearing lattice structures that have high form and color contrast, with existing transmission structures and the surrounding environment, along with vegetation clearing and the construction of a new transmission route would contribute to this impact.
Additionally; other permanent facilities, such as, transition stations, would alter the visual character of the landscape. US Dept Of Energy, Office Of Electricity Delivering Energy And Energy Reliability, Washington DC August, 2017

*Note To AMC; I Agree With Everything You Say About Northern Pass. Except That Burying The Transmission Line Underground, Would Be, Ok.
Not ok, imo. No; Northern Pass, At All!
It’s a bad idea. Especially in this; 9 months out of the year snow, climate. Those cables would not last very long, underground.
Too dangerous, to even think of this concept.
I’m from NJ, so I’m an expert on pollution.
I’ve read several times in the news; about how, In NYC, people were getting zapped, from a poorly maintained power line (electrical conduits), that are, under the streets.

Union Leader-Plymouth NH; Ground-Zero of the grassroots efforts to scuttle Northern Pass, this town is in cheerful, disbelief after a State Committee pulled the plug on the hydro-electric project, but still don’t think, Eversource and Hydro-Electric will give up. Good instincts.
Hydro-Electric and Eversource, had plans for Plymouth. A transmission line, to be run beneath Main Street. The heart of Plymouth's, business district. This, would have had, disastrous consequences, for merchants.
How To Manage Right Of Way, In Power Transmission Line/Electrical Power Energy
Quebec–New England Transmission
Vegetation Management An integrated vegetation management program to protect electric reliability and public safety is necessary. Trees and high-voltage power lines are a hazardous combination. Tree interference with transmission lines are a leading cause of electric power outages and poses a safety threat to the public.
(IVM) is defined as the practice of promoting desirable, stable, low-growing plant communities that will resist invasion by tall growing trees species, through the use of appropriate, environmentally sound and cost effective control methods.

Impact
On New Hampshire
As currently proposed, the project remains above ground for two-thirds of it's route through New Hampshire and will require, 40 miles of new right-of way, through-out the forests of Coos County, the widening of existing right-of-way's further south and new towers, of up to 155 feet tall, to carry the lines.
The proposed route traverses some of New Hampshire's most scenic landscapes and will impact tourism and recreational experiences throughout the State.
The value of the Northern Pass lines will depreciate over time. Meaning that it's contribution to the tax base will also go down.
Studies indicate that properties along high voltage lines can lose 10 to 30% of their value. Which could lead to property owners, seeking tax abatement's. This makes accurately assessing Northern Pass's contribution to New Hampshire's tax base problematic. (from Citizens Count).
On The Environment
HVDC Line-High Voltage Direct Current
Northern Pass does not provide "green" power.
In Quebec, Canada, Northern Pass will require massive hydro impoundments, a resevoir formed by a dam). The five largest of which, would be the equivalent of flooding 50% of New Hampshire alone and which would not meet US environmental standards.
The project will divert multiple large rivers, most larger than any river in New Hampshire, with devastating impacts on hundreds of miles of Canadian river ecosystems.
Causing the flooding of, boreal forests, resulting in the emission of significant amounts of greenhouse gasses and releases mercury.
Large scale hydro-power is not, zero carbon and concerns have been raised about how such projects dramatically transform the landscape and impact local ecology.
The Northern Pass will, increase mercury in the water and damage the scenic beauty of New Hampshire.
Even more forested, carbon-trapping land will be flooded, releasing carbon. That's not clean or green.
The Pessamit Innu Band; (Pessamit Tribal Lands, in Quebec), have not approved the northern pass project, never been compensated for the use and damage of their land and loss of salmon. Pessamit Innu, Cross Canadian Border To Fight, The Power Line In New Hampshire. (Pinterest)

US reliance on Canadian hydo-power, may also undermine the market for investing in more sustainable local renewable energy projects. (from; Citizens Count).
History
In Dec 2008; Hydor-Quebec, with American utilities Northeast Utilities, (parent company of Public Service of New Hampshire) aka Eversource Energy and NSTAR (parent company of Boston, Edison) created a joint-venture, to build a new HVDC line from Windsor, Quebec, to Deerfield New Hampshire. With an HVDC converter terminal, built in Franklin, New Hampshire.
Hydro-Quebec, will own the segment, within Quebec, while the segment, within the US, will be owned by Northern Pass Transmission, LLC. A partnership between, Northeast Utilities (75%) and NSTAR (25%).
Estimated cost; US $1.1 Billion, to build. It will run through the White Mountains. This is an 180 to 190 mile line and is projected to carry 1,200 megawatts of electricity.
In Their Own Words; Eversource Shows Us, What An Atrocity Northern Pass Would Be For New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont And Everywhere, it’s proposed!
This is; my research, investigation, of what, “big electric,” is trying to do to New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, among many other states.
It took me 2 weeks to research and write this post. But I’m very stubborn, I kept researching and writing.
It’s A Labor Of Love, For All The Good People In New England And Everywhere. For sure, the labor part. I am quite tired.
I learned a lot researching this diary. It was a lot of work. Since I know nothing abut the subject except from my research.
I’ll tell you one thing though, I’m thoroughly disgusted, that these energy companies, are even trying, to pull a stunt like Northern Pass. In this day and age. They figured it’s quiet New England, no one would even notice. They didn’t know New England people.
So stupid! With all the snow in New England, covering overground and underground transmission wires.
See links above; about, what happens in NYC? Where they have, a moderate climate and there are many people around to notice a problem, not, in the middle of the wilderness.
Then, get this, took a lot of searching for this fact.
NH, is going to own and operate the US side of the operation.
So that means, NH or what ever other state they put it in will be responsible, and liable for Northern Pass’s upkeep, etc.
I’m totally ill after finding out what they plan for New Hampshire and New England.
Eversource/Hydro Electric can take this statement seriously, “I Never Want To Hear The Name, Northern Pass Again.”
After researching this diary. I am totally shocked; that anyone would even consider, such folly!
To want to; destroy, one of America’s few, and last pristine wildernesses, with such nonsense. Let them repair old existing transmission lines.
I’m from NJ. So, I know pollution. From, Bayonne NJ. The former home of Standard oil.
Before they built Bayway refinery. The oil storage tanks ran three miles, the entire length of the town. On the East Side. The tanks, had no bottoms. They used to just fill them, until the ground wouldn’t absorb any more.
