Jeff Flake attended a bi-partisan meeting of the gang of 4 after the hearing. Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Joe Manchin & Jeff flake, all potential swing votes on this nomination’s success or failure. According to reporters, Manchin said they were all undecided still.
Perhaps in that meeting, they discovered that adding up their own electoral calculus thoughts with their voting intentions would result in Brett Kavanaugh being appointed to, and becoming the swing vote on the Supreme Court. Despite the fact none of them seem to personally want him in that role, if for no other reason than the Supreme Court would be diminished and asterisk’d for it’s rigged partisan kangaroo court nature.
Jeff may have realized that a vote forward from the committee would likely result in a partisan 50-50 vote with Mike Pence as the decider. Certain confirmation of Bret Kavanaugh, and a supreme court damaged in reputation for a generation. Indeed the reputation of America as a Democracy being at stake.
Jeff Flake is rumoured to be considering a 2020 primary run for Presidential nominee vs. Trump. He could derail the Judicial committee vote tomorrow with a no vote, killing the nominee before it would force all senators to make their own personal future election influencing votes on the nominee.
Jeff Flake is retiring from the Senate, and is therefore not up for re-election. How would this influence his position as a potential 2020 primary challenger to The Donald? Would he still be able to raise money for a Presidential Primary? Would it be the right thing to do? Would he garner or lose votes?
If he torpedoed the candidate tomorrow morning he would be able to challenge Trump in the Primary as “The Saviour of the integrity of the Supreme Court, a true American Patriot who puts principles over Party, the only sane choice to save the republican party.
I’ll bet he does not sleep tonight.
Sweet Dreams Jeff!
