Here’s a concept.
Republicans utterly suck at policy, at the actual nuts ‘n bolts of governing. Their ideas are terrible, their implementation incompetent, their legislative chops limited to sabotage and filibuster.
But messaging? They’ve got messaging down cold. Boil everything down to a pithy, tangible, appealing, ‘common sense’ idea. That’s how they keep beating good policy with garbage.
We Democrats on the other hand tend to suck at messaging. We can talk policy all day, know the expected utility and cost and outcomes endlessly. But we can’t seem to craft a pungent, memorable and appealing tag-line. Elizabeth Warren is generally spot-on when it comes to messaging; too bad her skills can’t be cloned.
Trump’s idiotic ‘wall’ seems to be the bastard offspring of Trump’s inability to follow a script and his staff’s desperate attempt to give him something so simple even he can remember it. And here we are.
I think there’s a pungent, simple metaphor for Trump’s idiotic wall that Democrats should talk up, emphasize, and ridicule 24/7.
The ‘Wall’ is Trump’s Maginot Line. As in a grotesquely expensive worthless defence that will fail the only test that matters.
Building a wall when the 4,000 folks on the terrorist watch list flew into U.S. airports (and over any wall) makes as much sense as the billions of Francs the French sank into the Maginot Line in the 1920s and 1930s. And it’ll do about as much good. The Nazis simply attacked around the end of the Maginot line through the Ardennes forest.
The 9/11 hijackers would fly right over Trump’s moronic wall.
