Because of a scandal involving sexual assault last year, there was no Nobel Prize awarded in literature. So this year, two Nobel Prizes in literature are being awarded. The Swedish Academy announces that the 2018 Nobel Prize in Literature has been won by Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk “for a narrative imagination that with encyclopedic passion represents the crossing of boundaries as a form of life.” The Swedish Academy further announces that the 2019 Nobel Prize in literature is awarded to the Austrian writer Peter Handke “for an influential work that with linguistic ingenuity has explored the periphery and the specificity of human experience.”
