I have my share of pet peeves but one that affects me every day is encountering other drivers who are either too busy talking on their cellphones or texting while driving that they present a real hazard to other drivers.
Excuse me but it’s my personal opinion is that when you drive, concentrate on your driving: your car is not your personal rolling office or your kitchen or living room. Yes, it’s convenient for you to phone or text, but you don’t have the right to endanger your fellow drivers just for the sake of convenience.
And I have a simple solution: imagine if Apple modified its phone’s OS so that it would not allow you to either call or text on your phone while you are traveling faster than 10 mph.
Got something really important that you absolutely have to call someone about while you’re on the road? Simple. Pull over and make your call. Send your texts. Then resume your travels.
Oh I can imagine the outcry this would provoke! I say: bring it on! It’s long past time when we are not endangered by drivers distracted by phone calls and sending texts.
If Apple did this, other manufacturers would follow suit. If Apple can shrug off the outcry this would provoke, other manufacturers would do so in the interest of the public’s driving safety.
So what do you think?
