CNN reveals what liars Republicans have been during the impeachment vote.
Liz Cheney called the process to date “fundamentally tainted and unfair” because Trump “has had no rights inside these hearings, his counsel has not been able to be present”.
This is a grand jury proceeding. Grand juries are always non-public, and defense counsel is never present. A grand jury is a forum for a prosecutor to present a case that s/he has enough evidence to bring an indictment. Only after indictment, and during a trial (here, before the Senate), would the defendant have counsel present and have the right to present exculpatory evidence (if there is any — there appears to be none here).
Cheney also refers to it as the “Democrats’ impeachment inquiry”.
Republicans have been present at every hearing in which testimony has been taken, and they’ve had the ability to ask questions of witnesses. This is a bipartisan process, and Republicans are a part of it.
Steve Scalise even called the vote against the impeachment inquiry “bipartisan”.
Two Democrats voted against it, vs. every single House Republican. To call that “bipartisan” is flagrant BS.
Scalise also called the impeachment process “Soviet-style”.
Impeachment is one of the most fundamental Constitutional provisions there is — the right of the Legislative Branch to cut the diseased head off of the Executive branch. Scalise, and his fellow Republicans, are actively forgetting what it means to be a Cconstitutional republic, a democracy. They’re actively distancing themselves from being Americans.
Republicans in Congress have no moral center, and frankly, CNN and other media outlets should know this. It’s almost as if they’ve learned absolutely nothing from the 2016 election. Rather than repeat what will only be GOP lies about impeachment, and GOP lies about Trump, they need to stop quoting Republicans. Otherwise they only assist Republicans in spewing propaganda. Because that is all Republican have to offer now.
