There is this line of thought that the DNC is not doing enough to protect our presumptive nominee from Trump’s attack dogs. You can read one such Politico article here.
‘You’re making him a further victim’: Dems fume over DNC treatment of Biden
There is a serious problem with this. Joe Biden is not our presumptive nominee. We are months away from a single vote being cast. The argument that he is the best guy to beat Trump isn’t the DNC’s job to make. It is his.
The impeachment of Trump is a matter for congress based on abuse of power. That Biden is the subject of that abuse is irrelevant.
Is Biden being treated unfairly? That is his argument to make, not ours. Four years ago we were given very few choices, which boxed us in on Hillary’s email scandal. Regardless of the legitimacy of the scandal, the Clinton campaign was never able to get their arms around it.
We have several candidates now. Our party must be bigger than one person.
This message goes for everyone. Bernie had a heart attack. If his health concerns weaken his electoral chances, then he shouldn’t be the nominee.
The two lanes of the Democratic Party are not new. We have always had this balance. If Biden wants to represent the center left, he has to convince us he is up to it. This quote from Nevada doesn’t help.
“You’re not going to destroy me, and you’re not going to destroy my family.”
This is about the Democratic Party. It isn’t about Joe Biden or his family.
If the Biden campaign can’t spar with Trump’s attack machine now, there is no reason to believe they will be able to next fall. They have the spotlight right now, and there are a lot of Democratic candidates, who would kill for the attention they are getting. If they falter in that spotlight without the help of surrogates, then they aren’t ready for the gauntlet they have to complete.
