It’s not what many Democratic or left-leaning activists want to hear, but there is strong new evidence that Trump enjoys a large baked in electoral college advantage.
A New York Times/Sienna set of polls of the six closest battle ground states from 2016 found Trump running very competitively in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona, and North Carolina.
The current Democratic candidate who fares best? Joe Biden—yes the same Joe Biden constantly derided by many progressives on line. Maybe that’s why Trump tried to blackmail Ukraine into fabricating material to stop Biden. Both Sanders and Warren are weaker at present in most of these states.
The biggest problem—Trump currently plus six against Warren in Michigan.
The poll itself does not give reasons, but the Sanders-Warren dynamic may not have done Warren any favors. Warren has run a great campaign, but in making Medicare-for-all into a litmus test, Sanders has pushed Warren into positions that may not do her any good in a general election. With an incredibly complex health care system, it is frankly unlikely that we are suddenly going to move to Medicare for all (over a period of a few years) even if Warren were to become President.
What will be interesting to see (other than predictable cries of outrage from those who see any deviation from Medicare-for-all now as treason): will Democratic primary voters and caucus goers start to take a closer look at someone else?

My personal opinion about the candidates, I think Warren is great. I still admire Biden. I could vote for someone else.
