I finally moved from mile long comments to a blogpost. I’m not organized yet, but that will come.
Comments below started in response to professionals shirking their professional duties to satisfy personal desires. In this case, the pious pharmacist who can’t rise above personal fee-fees. Then I wander. But this is a quick overview of things I tend to rant about. I haven’t written regularly in more than a decade. Being bounced off FB and twitter cut off my contact with the world, and this is a step back towards playing with others.
The difference between amateurs and professionals is the ability to set aside personal feelings to serve the needs of others. Placing personal comfort over sworn duty debases all professionals by creating uncertainty in the public. If they will break their oath in one area, who knows what other rules they are willing to compromise on? And how far are they willing to go to impose their beliefs on others?
We trust professionals to do their jobs impartially, relying on their training, not their preferences. In this case, the belief that women are second class citizens whose bodies are public property creates a situation where he violates her Constitutional right to equal treatment. On a whim. Because Jesus. This is new form of Jim Crow. It denies access to healthcare instead the voting booth, but the script is the same. It sets a precedent that threatens Brown by legalizing different classes of citizens with limited civil rights. The real target is Brown. They want their ‘separate but equal’ back.
The same selfishness is seen in gun worshipers. Fanatic gun lovers would have us believe that any and every amateur should have the capacity and right to threaten the safety of society and the public space. Mass executions by white men hellbent on remaining demigods and their privileged class status is merely the price for their freedom. That is not how civilization works.
We have professionalized our law enforcement and defense. Law enforcement are schooled, trained, tested and certified to use deadly force to protect public safety. Their badges and uniform identify them as agents of the legal government; professionals who place rule of law over personal feelings and safety. (Stop laughing. You’re proving my point.) Impartiality is required of professionals. They must be held accountable for violations of their professional responsibilities.
Monotheism is corrupted and on its last legs. Religion and government corrode each other, and the intrusion of Christianity since Reagan has dragged us back to barbarism. We are now in a Holy war. Another Crusade to make Jesus return. Ask general Mike Flynn. We are fighting Saudi Arabia’s religious enemies and guarding their oil for them. Our Generals, who were on active duty when Afghanistan broke the USSR into pieces, waltzed merrily into the Valley of Death. Dressed like warriors. Thinking like warriors.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.” Stop electing white men to public office. They’ve got the system designed for themselves. We need a woman president who will challenge their assumptions of normal as much as Trump has, only in a positive way. We need a ‘commander in chief” who hasn’t envied John Rambo. Their is much more to Presidenting than our bloated military industrial complex. If the best we can do for major enemies are N. Korea and Iran, with a handful of religious fanatics, we are not a global power. We are predatory bullies.
The meds are kicking in, but I’m going to try to do this more often.
