I am a member of a local Democratic Committee in upstate New York in a town that went for Trump in 2016. As the Chairman of the Data Committee my task is to plan canvassing and a strategy to reach voters to turn out the vote in 2020. The past two election cycles have been very successful for Democratic Candidates in our town both locally, statewide and on the national level. Our Town Council is now has a Democratic majority, the Town Clerk is Democratic as is the County Sheriff, the County District Attorney (hasn’t been Democratic since 1850), the County Court Judge, the County Executive, the State Assembly, and our Congressional Representative. Congressman Antonio Delgado won despite the prevailing attitude even among the most left wing activists that a ‘person of color’ couldn’t win in one of the most racist campaigns I’ve witnessed and that includes the Democratic Primary.
This year Republicans will be targeting our Congressional District, NY 19, to take the seat back. We have an open State Senate seat as the incumbent Republican has announced he’s not running. Then of course the Presidential race. I expect to see one of the most hateful Congressional Races if the 2018 campaign is any indication. Here’s a mailing I received in 2018:
This came from the Congressional Leadership Fund which was closely aligned with Speaker Paul Ryan and two of the major funders were Sheldon and Miriam Adelson! They rented an office in Kingston NY:
Now that Trump is running for reelection I wonder if they’ll return. One thing for sure is they know their base in the rural areas.
We’re having a meeting in January to plan the 2020 campaign in our community to turn out a record number of voters. Loosing is not an option for us and the plan is to have coordinated events and canvases that will maximize not only voter turnout but voter participation. It is my philosophy that neighbors talking to neighbors is the most effective way to accomplish our goal. In this rural district voters respond to face to face communication which I imagine is true of all such areas. We will be reaching out to Democratic voters and NOP’s (no official party). I can’t stress enough to Democrats everywhere how important it will be to forget about numbers. Get out and knock on doors even in areas the data says are going Democratic. If everyone organizes and gets involved in their own town we will have no problems winning. In 2020 my personal goal is to get my town to vote for the Democratic Candidates and hand Trump his Ass!
