I have 30” of snow and a 200’ driveway. My car is stuck next to the house with tons of snow between me and the road. The guy who plows for me and my neighbor never showed up and is not returning his calls. Everybody who plows around here is slammed with work and not taking new customers. Anyway, I don’t need sympathy because I’m already feeling sorry enough for myself. I live in a very rural area and it’s a pain not being able to get my car out.
I do need Advice: should I consider getting a snowblower?
I am 76 years old and not as fit as I used to be. I have asthma and am sometimes short of breath even with meds, and sometimes OK. It gets cold as hell here and very windy, but that doesn’t bother me as much as most people and I have the clothing for Arctic conditions. We typically get smaller storms, but 18” is not unusual.
From reading, some of the newer snowblowers can handle the snow we get fine. They have power steering, electric start and even heated handles. The question is, is it too physically demanding for someone of my age? If anyone has a modern snowblower with power steering, how do physically demanding do you find it?
Also, I don’t have a garage to store it in, so I’d be covering it with tarps for the winter anyway.
An adequate snow blower for my conditions would not be cheap, $1000+. For anyone looking to research snow blowers for themselves, these are the two good resources I found:
