The current issue of The New York Review of Books has a penetrating article by Joseph O’Neill, entitled “No More Nice Dems”, describing how and why the Democratic Party, even when it wins the presidency, consistently loses governorships and statehouses across this great nation of ours.
O’Neill states of the Democratic Party that “Their core mission is to practice a ceremonial innocence about the unshakable virtue of American conservatism—“ He notes that in 2018, Chuck Shumer advised Trump to renominate Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court; predictably, the rethug response was hysterical laughter. It does make you wonder which universe Shumer inhabits….
O’Neill notes that raising funds is not an issue for the Dems; in fact they typically out-raise the rethugs; nonetheless, they are clueless about the fact that modern American politics is knife-fight.
One can only hope for an awakening among leaders of the party machinery; certainly members of this site have long had a clear view of the situation.
