The House Judiciary Committee is beginning its second day of impeachment hearings into Donald Trump’s campaign to pressure Ukraine into interfering in the 2020 elections on his behalf. Monday’s hearing will feature testimony from lawyers for Democrats and Republicans, presenting the conclusions of the House Intelligence Committee’s inquiry, which were reported last week.
Republicans continue to peddle conspiracy theories, attack, and distract rather than taking the facts of the matter head on—because they can’t admit to the facts while continuing to defend Trump. They’ll be yelling and fighting and obstructing through the day, trying to keep this a partisan issue rather than an issue of the facts of what Trump did.
House Democrats continue to keep this impeachment inquiry limited rather than exploring the full range of impeachable offenses Trump opens up. Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler said on Meet the Press that “We'll bring articles of impeachment presumably before the committee at some point later in the week,” but that he didn’t yet know what that would include.
