If we’re for it they’re against it and that’s that. We knew this was coming.
Yet we all need a doctor, the hospital, a dentist and the vision center to be there when we need them not just when we can afford them. I’ve been there. It sucks. Medical costs are the largest cause of personal bankruptcy in the country and it doesn’t have to be that way. In other industrialized nations they can’t take your home because you can’t pay your child’s cancer treatment bill. Think about that.
Under the intentionally unassuming name of “The Partnership for America’s Healthcare” has launched an all out attack on the very concept of Medicare for All under any guise. They don’t know the specifics but Big Profit Healthcare is already gunning against it whatever it is.
Health Care and Insurance Industries Mobilize to Kill ‘Medicare for All-NYT Robert Pear
...The coalition has picked up more than 25 members, (so far) including the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association and the nation’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans. (The usual suspects.)”
And it has already sprung into action.
Same tired old arguments.
“Medicare for all will require tax increases and give politicians and bureaucrats control of medical decisions now made by doctors and patients — arguments that echo those made to stop Medicare in the 1960s”
Interestingly enough the do have what I believe is a new angle. All at once they are now supporting ACA and incrementally tinkering with it.
“We have a structure that frankly works for most Americans,” said Charles N. Kahn III, the president of the Federation of American Hospitals, which represents investor-owned hospitals. “Let’s make it work for all Americans. We reject the notion that we need to turn the whole apple cart over and start all over again.”
Why? Because ACA still keeps the insurance largely in the hands of private corporations which have higher overheads. Unlike Medicare/Medicaid they syphon off a portion of every billing as a profit. A profit for what added benefit? They handle the paperwork. That’s it. Medicare already has a billing system that is much more efficient called the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). How is duplication beneficial and allegedly cheaper?

Why should anyone other than direct providers profit from my healthcare needs? Where is my benefit in that? If we’re going to talk about greatness, doesn’t America deserve a great healthcare system?
Big Pharma, insurance, and hospital conglomerates blocked single payer in 2008 and nearly blocked ACA altogether. Big Pharma blocked drug price negotiation in 2003. As a result we continue to pay billions more than necessary each year. Yes Universal Health care will be expensive which they make a big deal out of. Healthcare is already expensive. You already pay the cost whether it’s in premiums, deductibles, co-pays or taxes as it would be with Medicare for All. What they won't show you is that the benefits of Universal Health Care are greater than the cost of private health insurance. Let’s not get bamboozled again.
Can we be unified on, Healthcare For All, no matter what ends up being called, or who finally gets the credit? Each candidate has a vision. None will survive the law making sausage grinder. The end product will look different. That’s politics. This does not need to be a divisive issue. And remember that we need the Senate to put anyone's vision into reality.
