When your whole election strategy is premised on non-stop lies, help from a foreign intelligence apparatus, and pandering to segments of society who feel that neo-nazis are A-OK, there’s really no surprise when news comes out that the inaugural committee was just as shady as every other part of this sad experiment in US governance. I mean, just look at who is involved. I leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions.
Per the New York Times, prosecutors are looking at various instances of financial hank-panky. This includes the company Stripe, which handled payment and billing transactions for the committee. Jared’s brother Josh Kushner is an investor in Stripe. Hmmh...that’s interesting. And then there’s the committee chairman Thomas J. Barrack. Barrack’s closest aide on the committee? Rick Gates. Remember him? Yep, the same Rick Gates that pleaded guilty to financial fraud and lying to the FBI. Importantly, Gates is also the former deputy to Paul Manafort, the piece of human garbage that has been in jail since June following witness tampering allegations brought on from his conviction last summer on 8 financial crimes counts. I’ll be happy to see this guy sentenced in March. But I digress.
I know I needn’t explain to you Kossacks who these people are or what they have done. And Josh Kushner and Thomas Barrack have not been named in the subpoena so far as I know. And how this plays out is not known (not well for tRump I imagine), but the connections, the interacting parts with various investigations, the people already on the books for financial crimes that had access to the committee, and the serial mendacity spouting from the lips of Sanders who has already said, “This has nothing to do with the White House.”(in what world does a federal subpoena for documents related to the fundraising and spending of $100 million worth of inaugural committee funds for the sitting president have nothing to do with the White House?!) , one can reasonably begin to see that the inaugural committee was just another cash and influence grab by some of the worst actors in the tRump’s orbit. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or a federal prosecutor to understand the rot that lies at the heart of this presidency. Perhaps you just need to be a bit more clever than the average R voter.
A tangled web indeed.
