Dems need to change ammo for this issue. We can rouse the entire country, but until we do, Trump will continue to tap dance and get away with it. And children will continue to wonder where their parents are, and parents will continue to wonder where their children are. If you are a parent, COULD YOU HANDLE THAT???
When the SEPARATION OF CHILDREN FROM THEIR FAMILIES FIRST BECAME PUBLIC months ago, America was aroused and immediate mass outrage ensued. THE NEXT DAY, Trump signed an Executive Order ending the separation of children. THE NEXT DAY.
Obviously, the residue of former separations remains. Now, it’s become a political football with much less attention than it must have, enabling Trump to fiddle around with responses, and the ACLU and so far the American Court System haven’t the resources to pursue this international embarrassment on their own. Since most separated children are from Latina families, most Americans are so far not that stirred up about the plights of thousands of children now at risk of life-changing outcomes at the hands of the Trump administration. The entire planet is wondering WHAT AMERICA IS.
Dems need to change the language.
Parents of all species — animal and vegetable — are born with a biological imperative to protect the off-spring. It is the fundamental prerogative that enables perpetuation of species. An easy example: When a child gets lost in a supermarket, parents on the scene DO NOT STOP to contemplate whether this child “deserves” assistance — THEY STOP WHAT THEY’RE DOING and render assistance — immediately. This happens universally in any situation. This is evidence to me (who has no children) of biology at work. I daresay EVERY human being reading this diary has a personal memory of — has witnessed — a very similar situation. That makes the example capable of stirring a personal memory — and that stirs a biologically-driven response.
The Democratic Party should address this NOW. Write some effective ads using the above meme, get them massively funded and run them in a viral attack on the Trump administration’s failure to “find” the missing children THEY’RE responsible for, in all media. (I’m tweeting this paragraph to Speaker Pelosi immediately, with a link to this entire diary.)
Let’s get serious about finding our missing children.
