I think the web cast I just saw of the launch of the Falcon Heavy launch vehicle and the successful landing of all three booster rocket modules was one of the coolest things ever!
Musk et al did a great job of letting us see each stage of the launch and then the reentry burns of the various rockets. The most spectacular thing was when they cut back to a view of the landing pads at Cape Canaveral and the two first stage boosters rockets came into view, slowed, and then landed light as a feather. Spectacular!
In another few minutes we get to watch as the upper stage rocket makes it’s last burn and then releases the communications satellite payload.

Third update: Now they’ve got the orbit they wanted after another massive burn from the engine on the payload vehicle. Got to see that too!
Fourth: They successfully released the Arabsat 6 satellite into space—and we got to see that too.
When I started reading Van Vogt and Heinlein over 50 years ago, and even when I got to see the launch of the Mercury vehicles, I didn’t think I’d ever see “space ships landing on planet earth”, but that’s what I just witnessed. This SciFi fanboy is all a flutter….
Wow. Just wow!
