The importance of the treatment of strangers. Trump seems to think that Netenyahu is MY prime minister (he isn't, and to set the record state I don't have dual loyalties). He claimed Jews won't vote for him-because we didn't bribe him (except for Adelson). I will spare you the long list of other things that spew out of his two-scoop mouth. A lot of ink has been spent discussing the dog whistle anti-Semitism that he spoke in front of Jewish Republicans. But I am surprised that I have not found any public mention of him talking to a Jewish audience whose ancestors likely emigrated from wherever, and received assistance from the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society HIAS. You may remember as the agency that was the motivation for the Squirrel Hill synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh. I have seen people mention that he dehumanized people seeking asylum as “animals,” the same way that Hitler did. I suppose that's what happens if you keep Hitlers’ speeches by your bed.
Jews have a long history of ending up as strangers in a land. The whole Exodus story is filled with exhortation's about treating the stranger fairly. As is the rest of the Old Testament, and also the New Testament. But there are people who are far more eloquent than I, who write in newspapers, blogs, and magazines and I don't see this thread being picked up.
