My brother Reid has been in the hospital for a month and a half. He will finally be coming home Thursday. He will be on oxygen probably for the rest of his life. Thirty-eight years of 6 packs a day smoking has caught up with him. He quit cold turkey 5 years ago but the damage had already been done.
One of the things that he said he really missed was my cooking. I’m going through my recipes and picking out some of his favorites. That is one of the good things I can do since I love to cook.
There are things that they don’t tell you before you become a caregiver. They don’t tell you about commodes and cleaning up the patient. They don't tell you that sleep will be interrupted while you call 911 again. They don’t tell you the emotional toll that it takes.
He is coming home Thursday and that is the important thing.
