Oh, look, part-time White House press secretary and full-time shameless mentirosa Sarah Sanders finally decided to grace reporters with her presence on Thursday, when she was questioned about why failson Jared Kushner’s very-not-serious immigration “plan” fails to address legalization for undocumented immigrants, in particular those enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Her response to that, of course, was a complete lie. "Every single time that we have put forward or anyone else has put forward any type of immigration plan that has included DACA, it's failed,” Sanders said. “It's a divisive thing.” Maybe to Stephen Miller, but when it comes to decent Americans who don’t smile at the sight of babies getting ripped out of their mothers’ arms at the border, they’re firmly behind legalization for DACA recipients. Like, really behind it.
“By an 83-12% margin, Americans support policies allowing Dreamers to remain in America,” CNN reported last year, with support crossing party lines. “Democratic respondents support policies to keep Dreamers here in America by a 94-4% margin, Independents by 83-14%, and Republicans by 67-21%.” A poll the year before that had a “staggering” 86% of Americans supporting legalization for immigrant youth.
It’s been the Trump administration, led by White House aide and white supremacist Stephen Miller, that has consistently derailed proposals to protect these young immigrants. Everyday Americans, though, have consistently been clear: They want undocumented immigrant youth to stay. Anyone claiming otherwise, including Sanders, is lying to you.
